From the graph we can see that the population kept growing all over the world during 1960 to 1975, so countless factories and plants were built. They needed more coal and oil for fuel to start various kinds of machines. Thus the air was seriously polluted. At the moment, questioning the quality of the air that people breathed became less important than worrying about the money they earned. Therefore, the percentage of cancer went up by 0.06%。

The second reason for the rise of cancer was that each year more automobiles crowded the cities and towns. They give off① too much poisonous gas② into the air. These kinds of waste gas were very dangerous to people’s health because most of them contain elements that can cause cancer.

Authorities③ and managers have done a lot to prevent pollution. Inventors have been working on turbine-powered④ cars to cut down the dangerous gases. Progress has been made in recent years. The number of people suffering from⑤ cancer has gone down by 0.08% from the year 1975 to 1990.
